Shelter Posts Funny Dog Ad for ‘Fire-Breathing Demon’

The Niagara SPCA posted a funny dog ad with a unique twist - honesty and humor. The listing for the French Bulldog Ralphie warns “at first glance, he’s an adorable highly sought after, young dog. People should be banging down our doors for him.”

Ralphie the problem pooch.

But, in reality, this cute pup “is a terror in a somewhat small package,” the rescue states. The hilarious ad goes on to call Ralphie a “fire-breathing demon” who needs a home with no kids or other dogs and a calm and stern owner who will lead him firmly, “putting up with zero crap.”

Most animal rescue ads focus on the cuteness and positive qualities of the dogs, but this one decided on an honest yet funny dog ad. The Niagara SPCA states that Ralphie was already adopted and returned twice.

The adorable pup is a “whole jerk – not even half,” the shelter wrote in the ad. The listing explains that in Ralphie’s second home, he was too “annoying” for the adopters’ older dog.

Funny Dog Ad Gets Results

Despite Ralphie’s many problems, fame is not one of them. The funny dog ad has gone viral, as CNN reported on the problem pooch. Since then, there has been an outpouring of people who are “that crazy” to want to adopt the 26-pound “terror.”

With so much interest in the “little jerk,” the Niagaras SPCA has posted even more comedic updates and information on Ralphie. He went on a training trip with two shelter workers “who don’t value their fingers” to Joann Fabrics. The hilarious scene unfolded with Ralphie “being a complete lune” in the car but luckily it was a short trip.

At the fabric store, Ralphie immediately went to admire himself in the mirror. After an admirer survived an encounter with the little terror, he had a training session to work on sits and downs. Once he’d had his fill, he strutted out of the store.

“All in all, it was a good trip. No blood was shed,” the recure writes. “They weren't told to never come back.”

Ralphie enjoyed a pup cup on the way back before falling asleep with a deep Frenchie snore.

The shelter states that despite all the terror, they do believe Ralphie has the potential to sometimes be better, and they continue to work on his training and socialization.

In the meantime, he continues to attack mops and other threats to his supreme reign.

Adoption Applications

Ralphie has become a sought-after pup, with people “from 40 different states and counting, 3 Canadian Provinces and 1 European Country,” expressing interest in him so far, according to the rescue. Ralphie’s funny dog ad paid off!

As the shelter goes through the applications, they continue to post updates about the entertaining pooch on their Facebook page.

Rescuing a Dog

There are many funny, adorable pups in rescues around the world. According to the ASPCA, these are the adoption stats:

  • About 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. shelters each year. Of those pets, approximately 3.1 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

  • Every year, approximately 920,000 animals in shelters are euthanized (390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats).

With so many pets who need homes in shelters, adopting from a shelter or rescue helps save lives. You can find adoptable rescue dogs on Petfinder (that’s where I found my pup), or check out the breed profile of your preferred breed in our Breeds section. We have a list of rescues for each dog breed.
